What is IPMS Hellas?
|
IPMS Hellas is the Greek branch of the International Plastic Modellers Society, founded in 1981 by a small group of Greek modellers who decided that their hobby should come of age. It was high time for modellers, their families, friends and acquaintances and, the still very few at the time, importers of modelling supplies to realise that modelling was no longer a just a simple pastime for children.
After almost thirty years the continuous presence of IPMS-Hellas has left its mark on the Greek modelling scene. The hobby has become known to, and accepted by a much wider public and it has often been publicised by the mass media. Model shops have sprung up and flourished all over Greece and the range of models and modelling materials available today is wider than ever. Greek modellers have developed their skills and won prizes in various competitions abroad. All this is testimony to the extent that IPMS-Hellas has contributed to the hobby's development in Greece.
Over the years modellers in various areas of Greece have come together and formed regional branches of IPMS-Hellas. Corfu, Chania in Crete and the Northern suburbs of Athens all boast very active branches. They organise regional competitions and also foster the hobby by conducting seminars and modelling classes as well as visits to various site of interest to modellers. Also various other regional clubs not directly affiliated to IPMS-Hellas have sprung up, all helping in the growth of the modelling community.
Since 2003 IPMS-Hellas has its base at 14 Anastaseos street in Illioupoli, Athens.

So what does IPMS-Hellas have to offer?
|
It keeps modellers up to date and provides a wealth of information for them to use. By organising meetings, modelling seminars and classes, newcomers to the hobby can benefit from the knowledge old hands can impart. Techniques, historical and technical data are subjects for discussion and for exchange of ideas. IPMS-Hellas has a rich library containing hundreds of magazines and books, which are a goldmine of information for modellers.
IPMS-Hellas publishes its magazine "NEA" 3 times a year. The 48 pages of each issue contain a wealth of information. Over the years it has established itself as a worthy source of reference material. It has hosted many original articles on a variety of mainly Greek subjects and many previously unpublished photos. Indeed in the past it has been praised as one of the best IPMS publications internationally.
IPMS-Hellas organises an annual National competition, which has been a firm highlight on the Greek modelling diary for the past 24 years.
Despite its rich contribution to date, IPMS-Hellas remains a non profit society that depends solely on its membership, not only through subscriptions but also through their generous contribution of time, effort and knowledge. This naturally, is its lifeblood and all members and friends are encouraged to contribute.
It is our sincere hope that this website will bring the Greek modelling community closer to the worldwide modelling family and will also serve as a resource for those seeking a source of information concerning Greek subjects. Please feel free to contact IPMS-Hellas through this website.
